I like the word "indolence." It makes my laziness seem classy. ~Bern Williams
It was a hard day of training for Squad Trio at Base Oasis.
Private Mean Muffin and Private Dark Angel spent an afternoon engaging in virtual combat and underwater demolition training. At the same time, Staff Sergeant Big Cat was kept busy keeping surveillance and executing propaganda on simulated foe.
By the time they started to head back to home base, it was dark and the full moon dimly lit their haggard figures.
Upon reaching Base Asylum, Private Dark Angel was the first to raise the alarm.
“Suspicious sound detected from the entrance, Sir.”
“Privates, exercise extreme caution. Private Dark Angel, charge your way in. Private Mean Muffin and I will back you up.”
As Private Dark Angel disengaged the lock and darted into the room, a dark figure pounced on her petite frame.
“Help! Help! I’m under attack!”
Private Mean Muffin and Staff Sergeant Big Cat rushed forward. With trained dexterity, the staff sergeant tackled the shadowy form and successfully disengaged it from Private Dark Angel.
“It’s a hunter! Privates, be on your guard. Private Dark Angel, you stay put here and inspect the area. Private Mean Muffin, proceed to the Northeast Chamber. I’ll take the Galley.”
Staff Sergeant Big Cat pressed her back to the wall and moved cautiously towards the Galley. Except for a couple of grimy dishes in the sink, nothing was out of the ordinary. She slowly treaded her steps back to the Common Room where Private Mean Muffin joined them.
“Privates, report.”
“All in order in the Northeast Room, Sir” Private Mean Muffin replied.
“Sir, there are signs of ransack. Backpacks are tossed over the floor and papers scattered on the countertop. Gadgets are littered everywhere too.”
Staff Sergeant Big Cat furrowed her brows.
“Privates, triangle formation. We’re going into the Southeast Room. Exercise full alert at all times.”
With Staff Sergeant Big Cat leading the squad, the trio moved forward.
From the doorway, Staff Sergeant Big Cat could already see the damage done. There was an even greater mess in the Southeast Room. Documents were strewn all over the bed. Even more gadgets were laying about in a chaotic manner. In the center of the room was a pile of book stacked up neatly. With her experience, Staff Sergeant Big Cat suspected something unusual.
“Might be a land mine,” she thought to herself.
The squad entered the room to assess the situation.
“Be on your guard. Beware of the…”
Before the staff sergeant could warn her privates of the suspicious stack in the centre of the room, Private Dark Angel had accidentally tripped over the neat pile.
“Take cover!” Staff Sergeant Big Cat gave a final cry.
The books toppled over one another and landed in yet another mess.
“Angel, why can’t you watch where you are walking? Look at the mess you have created!”
“Sorry, Mummy,” muttered Angel.
“Oh, forget it. Let’s go to bed. We’re all tired. We’ll clear all these mess tomorrow.”
We retreated from Mervin’s room.
